IN CHARACTER
Name: Charlene Roberta McGee.
Canon: Firestarter
Canon Point: Five years post escaping the Shop, plus four months of CRAU in [community profile] medietas
Age: Seventeen

History: Warning: Stephen King's usual Horrible to Children shenanigans here.

CRAU: It's during a trip via bus to Canada that Charlie finds herself yanked to Medietas. The sudden journey was jarring, but not as much as running into her dad, who is supposed to be dead. She gets a month with him, however, before he disappears from her life. It's during that month and the weeks after that she finds herself befriending others in her situation, most importantly one Jack Kelly, even going so far as to fall for him. And it's this relationship that helps her step out of her comfort zone. During her time in Medietas, she's experienced ghosts tearing up her house, a stay in a castle suspiciously void of the owners, and building a small family out of other residents. Now, this was only a four month stay at a stretch, so other than getting a job working in Granny's diner and establishing something resembling a normal life, there's really not much to say.

Even so, this time has helped her grow out of a bit of her trust issues and quite recently, she's gotten a job at the Blacksmithy, learning the trade and learning how to apply two of her abilities to the job.

Personality: For starters, one must understand this about Charlie above all else: Before her time in Medietas, she'd never had anyone show her any manner of kindness and honesty except for four people. Her mother, who was murdered, her father, who was also murdered, and the Manders whose only mistake in life was to take in a small child who had just lost her parents and who had a power no one understood. So she has a deep understanding of loss and an understanding that sometimes people are the monsters. She has trust issues and won't easily accept people being nice to her, because it's usually the nicest people who want the worst for her. Like the men that came to her school and said they were friends of her fathers, and Hollister with all of those bribes and saccharine kindness.

Eventually, she gets there, but not without a lot of internal struggle and questioning everything the other person does. She has an easier time trusting people her age, because she hasn't met someone her age who was out to get her.

She can be a very loving and loyal girl, though, once she figures out a person is worth trusting. She can be outgoing, silly, kind of sassy and sarcastic, but genuinely caring and loving and hoping for the best out of the people she attaches herself to. Her time in Medietas has taught her, if only a little bit, that her powers aren't something to be afraid of. That the Very Bad Thing isn't actually a bad thing at all, and is as much a part of her as her eyes or her hands.

That's not to say she won't be wary of the sudden setting change, especially without Jack there. Her stable life will be upturned and she'll struggle to find her footing, not really fond of the idea that her normal life is gone and she'll have to start over.

But her inquisitive nature will kick in, and she'll want to learn about her new surroundings and the people in it. Having been around some of these people before, she'll find some of the faces vaguely familiar, but not enough so that she'll remember her time here. It'll be enough where if someone did use her name, she wouldn't immediately react in fear and horror, thus saving people from getting burned. But she'll never fully regain her previous memories and this'll push her to reach out to people a lot more than she's used to, in hopes of understanding as much as she can about the world she finds herself now.

Abilities/Skills: Pyrokinesis, telepathy, telekinesis, mental domination, precognition.

Some of these are limited to how close she is to a person, like the telepathy and the precognition. If someone she's close to thinks about something, she'll pick up a vague idea of it. Example: Her father thinking they should hide in her grandfathers cabin on Lake Tashmore, and Charlie going "What about Granthers Cabin?" Now, this was when she was younger and her powers were still growing, so by this point, I don't see how she can't pick up a thought more clearly and understand to a degree that it wasn't her own.

Same with precognition. If someone she cares about is in danger, she'll get what basically equates to a vision or (to steal a term from Stranger Things Season 2) a now-memory. She sees what's happening, knows the details of it, but it's something from outside of her self. Example: Andy and Charlie sitting at lunch at the Manders house, Charlie going to reprimand her father that he told the Manders about her abilities and the trouble she's in, only to be interrupted by the now-memory of the Shop driving up the long driveway. She even knew they meant to kill her father

The mental domination is subtle, even now. She's not fully aware she can do it, just that sometimes she can scare people into going away. She doesn't have her fathers Push. Her mental domination ability is more about intimidation. Putting a sense of Unease in someone that makes them flee on their own.

Example: Charlie being taken to the stables by a Shop agent to await her father, turning to tell the agent to go away and even though he was tasked with watching her and making sure she doesn't make a run for it, he leaves because something suddenly pings as very Wrong to him.

The telekinesis and pyrokinesis go hand in hand and are her strongest abilities. At a young age, she was able to rip a helicopter from the sky with just a thought, stopping the propellers and sending it crashing to the ground. She threw Rainbird against a wall before setting him on fire, keeping him pinned in place while he burned.

Her abilities don't tire her out like they used to, and they certainly don't cause her harm like they did her father. But she's also not going to run around being an All Powerful Dipshit because she knows there's a time and place for when and how to use her abilities.

Strengths/Weaknesses: Avid reader. Despite missing several years in her education, she is in fact quite smart and loves to read. She is also quick at learning and loves being around food. She's also very organized and keeps messes to a minimum. She doesn't like to leave evidence that she was ever anywhere.

Weaknesses: She gets ill around the smell of cooked meat, it's a PTSD thing. She relates it to the smell of burning bodies.

She'd be good in a library or a kitchen, but won't be too picky about where she's sent.

Items: The pajamas on her black and a seven month old dark grey cat named Bubble Oh Seven. She will also have her messenger bag with pictures of herself and Jack in it and her latest journal to her father.

[ So the person on the video feed? She may look familiar to some of you all and if she does? That's great. Except there's a problem. She doesn't look like this place is one-hundred percent familiar. At best? She looks like she's experiencing a strange case of deja vu. Which is what's prompting this post, anyway. ]

Hey...uh...name's Charlie. Hi. So, I have a question about this place. And it's probably a weird one, but just...bear with me, here. I went from one weird situation to another, so maybe there's something there that I'm not seeing yet. But, something about this place is familiar. The faces, mostly. Feel like I've seen some of you before, but I don't recognize any of you from the islands I was just on. So, it can't be there. And I'm sure none of you are from home, otherwise this wouldn't be a problem.

[ Except maybe it would be. What does she know? She kinda shrugs, though. It's not terribly important to get to the bottom of this mystery, but it'd certainly help her settle in some. The round,
grey kitten makes an appearance, sniffing at Charlie's face a bit intrusively and Charlie leans back,
frowning.
] Bubble, can you not?

[ It's ignored in favor of more sniffing before Charlie just picks the cat up and sets her on the floor with a huff. ] I love you, Bubble, but you're rude.

[ And back to the device. ]

I think my cat's hungry, so I'm going to find food for her. So to make this short, if you do recognize me, help me out. This deja vu shit is for the birds.

Another one. That one got no replies, but it's still a writing sample, right?
