Charlie and Scott hadn't quite decided to define whatever thing this was between them, but a date sounded like the right idea. It seemed like the most natural thing in the world to be at the park in New Dodge with a basket of food and a blanket, both of them stretched out in it and talking about what whatever. Anything but what was going on between them. Maybe they didn't need to define it. Maybe they just needed to ease into whatever this was.

That sounded fine by her.

Charlie'd helped put the basket together, putting in things like sliced apples and cheeses and bread. Crackers, a few bottles of water and a couple ginger ales. It wasn't the heaviest meal, more a snack, really. But with Charlie's stomach troubles as of late, she wasn't really looking for anything big.

She even made sure to grab some of the left over fried chicken she'd made for Erica the night before, just for Scott since Charlie wasn't a fan of most meat products.

She's happy where she is, one arm casually draped around Scott's waist, listening to him talk about Beacon Hills and some of the happier moments from home.

"It's really starting to sound like if you're awake, something insane is happening to you and your friends back home," Charlie finally says, grinning with amusement.

Scott was laying on his back with his arms folded under his head and Charlie right there next to him. He was the picture of true contentment. The fact that Charlie had been so thoughtful to bring him meat when it normally bugged her so much had not been missed by him. Scott had been having trouble figuring out what to fix for her since her sense of smell was so out of sorts. Fortunately she'd found some things they could eat.

He laughed and nodded. "Yeah, I almost got held back a year in school because of it. Fortunately I made it up in summer school. Everyone else is trying to figure out where they're going to college and I'm trying to figure out how to keep people from dying."

"Thanks, Charlie. I don't think I was very happy back home," Scott said thoughtfully. "It's just been such a relief being here and away from all that stress that's helped me relax again. The nightmares are getting less frequent, so I'm guessing that's the reason there too."

He smiled down at her. "It helps having some good friends to enjoy being around too."

He felt a strong wave of protectiveness at Charlie's words. "No one will ever bother you like that again. I promise," he swore. He'd personally make sure of that. It wasn't that she was weak or helpless in need of him to rescue her, but it was how he understood love. If you loved someone you kept them safe. It was the alpha instinct in his.

The lips brushing against his was sweet but not enough. When she finished speaking, he moved in to kiss her more deeply. Moving a hand to her cheek, he caresses her skin tenderly as he kissed her.

There had been times with some women in his past (okay, just the one) that made this just so difficult. No matter how much they wanted to be together, it never seemed easy. Things were always trying to tear them apart either internally or from somewhere outside their relationship. With Charlie, that wasn't the case. She was easy to love and her company fun and enjoyable. Scott didn't have to keep wondering if she'd end up turning on him or get manipulated. Good luck to anyone who tried that to Charlie!

"You promise?" He teased, The idea of being stuck kissing Charlie for hours was the very opposite of a bad risk. It was something to strive for, as was trying to keep winning her heart. It was so much fun to do and he liked it when he could surprise her.

"Hey.. uh.. I got you something." He said and pulled back. From his bookbag he'd brought along that often was stuffed with his ipod, some vet books he was studying, or things like that, he pulled a poorly wrapped gift with a lopsided bow on top. It was about the size of his hand only rectangular.

"Yeah, it's not quite right but.. I was.. I don't know," he said trying to explain himself but deciding to just shut up instead.

Inside is a little white onesie that read 'lil' firecracker'.

"I was trying to find something fire themed," Scott said, embarrassed by his gift.

Scott shifted a bit uncertain as to why it was so fragile. Had he done something wrong? The smile he gets proves otherwise and he can't help but return it.

"You do? Good.. I'm glad," he replied, relieved. He hugged her back.

Scott blushed lightly at that warning. Very softly, he replied, "I might be okay with that."

It was probably a dumb thing to say. She'd probably get scared off by it and then who knew what would become of them but.. it was the truth.

Running his fingers gently along her face, his smile was bright and all just for her. The rest of the world had long since disappeared to him. The only one that mattered was right here in front of him.

"Charlie.. do you think.. would it be too high school-y to ask if you wanted to be my girlfriend?"
